Best known for his Geet Ramayan, which comprises 56 songs that describe the events of Ramayan in chronological order, Madgulkar’s works are still remembered for their timeless quality. The other singers, Mukul Pande, Sawani Vakharkar and Rahul Manekar, whose rendition of Jhala mahar Pandharinaath went down well with the audience, performed well with songs like Santh vahitey Krishnamai and Naach re mora. Shrikant Pendharkar mesmerized with his superb presentation of Tujhe roop chitti raho and Uddhava ajab thuzi sarkar.
Monica Deshmukh won applause for her rendition of popular songs like Hey Shri Rama, Gori gori paan, Ya sukhanno ya. Starting off with Tujya kantisam raktpataka, the event showcased fresh voices of the city. Conceptualized by Rahul Manekar, the musical concert had four singers rendering some of the best Bhakti, Bhaav, Baal geet written by the lyricist. In a programme comprising 29 songs, including a medley from Geet Ramayan, the effort was to showcase the entire gamut of the works of famous song writer GD Madgulkar. This was the first event in the two-day festival, being held at Scientific Society hall, which seeks to present some of the best creations of Marathi and Hindi popular music.
